The Persecution of Sodomites in Zurich in the second half of the 17th century
English abstract
In late seventeenth century Zurich trials for Sodomy increased considerably. The collapse of social spaces which allowed for same sex intercourse without attracting too much attention was one of the reasons for this change. Additionally the unprecedented clash of interests between secular and spiritual elites facilitated the trials further. The prosecution served a new class of politician to exclude the reformed clergy from political decision making.
