A Bio-bibliographical Overview with a Bibliography of his Fictional und Academic Publications from 1970 to 2000

English abstract

Joachim S. Hohmann (1953-1999) was probably one of the most productive authors of his generation. Between 1970 and 2000 he published circa 130 books. Hohmann assisted the emancipation process of the German homosexual movement in the 1970s and 1980s with articles in gay magazines like him or du & ich. Furthermore he published renowned non-fiction books as well as papers in anthologies like Homosexualität und Subkultur, Der unterdrückte Sexus or Entstellte Engel. Hohmann's contribution to the homosexual literary history of the 19th and 20th centuries was undoubtedly fundamental. Additionally, his research focused an the analysis of theories of homosexuality in early sexology, the depiction of homosexuals in jokes and the prosecution of homosexuals in the "Third Reich".

Hohmann studied pedagogy and social sciences but also published 12 volumes of poetry. Among his publications are studies an "school anxiety", youth Protest, research on prejudice, the history and culture of the Sinti and Roma, euthanasia and "biology of race" in the "Third Reich" as well as the history of German as a school subject.

This paper presents an outline of Hohmann's biography as well as an overview of his oeuvre which evolved around a dynamic coexistence of committed public engagement, academic work and literature. The appendix consists of a systematic bibliography of published books classified into literature, non-fiction and edited works.
